grandma frances recipes - doughnuts or fastnachts


1 1/2 cup sugar

1 cup mashed potatoes

1 cake yeast (dissolved in 1 cup lukewarm potato water)

1/2 cup shortening (melted)

2 eggs (3 if eggs are small)

Mix ingredients together

Add flour until stiff enough to make dough

Let rise for a few hours until doubled

Divide dough into small balls and fry in deep fat

Drain and cool

Sprinkle with powered sugar
